This unique trail starts at the foot of the Swartberg Mountain about 14km from Calitzdorp. The trail winds steeply up to its high point on the saddle, with luggage and food being transported by donkey, to the tented camp over the ridge. The trail is a recreation of the route used by the farmers of the Gamkaskloof, in the mid to late 1800’s, to transport their produce to the markets. Donkeys were the main means of transporting goods. The trails winds down in to Gamakaskloof on the second day, where the overnight accommodation is in one of the renovated cottages. Transport is provided to return to the start.
